Adapting Your Nursery for a Toddler
Babies don't stay babies forever, and as your baby grows and develops, it is vitally important that the environment changes as well, to keep up with his or her needs.
For your Nursery, space is a problem, because while you now want more space for the baby to crawl and then walk, you also will need to maintain enough storage space and furniture in the room.
Safety is of primary importance when your baby becomes mobile. You should try to keep loose furniture to the minimum in the room at this time, and what furniture there is must be completely stable with no sharp edges, as your baby is now in a very inquisitive stage and will want to explore his environment.
When your baby is able to climb out of his cot, it is time to change it for a bed. A bed with drawers underneath is ideal, because storage space is very important at this stage in the development of your child's nursery.
The bed should be positioned in the room, to maximise floor space, and if you feel that there is not enough space in the room, you might consider buying a bed that you can fold down off the wall.
At this age, its toys, toys and yet more toys, as the healthy growing toddler usually has a small attention span, and will get tired with one toy and move onto the next. For storage space at the end of a busy day playing, you could store the toys away in ready-made toy boxes, wicker baskets, laundry baskets or plastic stacking boxes.
Remember that as your toddler starts to pull himself up and start to walk, everything in the well designed nursery should be secure, as you don't want him to pull himself up on a wicker basket, and the basket to fall on top of him.
These storage containers should be arranged around the wall and held firmly in place with screws.
Here are some essential items for your toddler's Nursery.

This is an extremely important time, as your child is facing new challenges every day, and it is important that parents can be safe in the knowledge that he can do this without hurting himself.
